[i'm not going to post any videos/images on this issue because they're painful and upsetting to watch. You can google it yourself if you want to]

Those who wish to pet and baby wildlife love them, but those who respect their natures and wish to let them live their natural lives, love them more." - Edwin Way Teale, author and naturalist

For this particular post, I’m going to talk about bear bile.

A teacher briefly mentioned it in class one day and the information and images I found on e net is painful to see and know.

Bile bear is also called a battery bear. And this term applys to black bears kept in cages so that bile may be extracted from them. It is a extremely extremely painful process. There are many extraction methods. And I’m sure all are painful. Usually bile is extracted from them twice a day, and it is clearly painful for them, who are seen moaning and chewing their paws during the process. Sometimes the farmers just push a hollow stick through a bear’s abdomen, and the bile runs into a basin under a cage.

The living condition is also really bad. They are kept in cramped small cages to facilitate the “milking” of the bile and most of the time, these cages prevent the bears from standing up straight or even move. And the worst thing is, they live up to 25 years in such condition without free access to food and water and it leads to many complications.

Cubs in captivity are taken from their mothers at 3 months when they have been observed staying with their mothers for up to 18 months in e wild. Some are trained to perform in circuses because the “milking” of gallbladder begins at 3 yrs old.
When the bears stopped producing bile then they are killed for their meat.

Bear bile is believed to have medicinal properties and are often used in traditional Chinese medicine. As stated in Wikipedia, it contains ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) which is believed to reduce fever, break down gallstones, protect liver, improve eyesight etc.

    My opinion on this issue:
Would you build your happiness or in this case, build your health at the expense of others? In this case leading to the painful living of the bears? What I mean is even if I were going to die, I would not turn to something like this to keep myself from not dying. Do you feel good consuming or using something like that after knowing the background of how it came from?

And I think these people are…very crazy people. I hate them. Cant they see that it is painful for the bears? And they can actually continue to do that for years? All these just for profits, just for money? I think I would rather starve to death than earn money this way. Really. Mark my words.

Reading all these makes me feel really really upset. Such a big thing is happening, in other countires but how many of us knows? How many of us even bothers?

I know some will ask: why should I care?
But firstly you must understand that everything in this world, we are all connected. They are part of nature. What rights do we have to inflict this kind of pain over them, for our own benefits? That is so so wrong!

    http://bearbilefacts.org/
and the above is a site started by 2 individuals who have researched on this issue. I like what they are doing, because they are allowing more people to understand what actually is happening.

and the above is written by a lady from Australia. I think she wrote it in a beautiful way. And I can really feel what she is trying to make the readers see.

    i found such a article on e net.n i extracted e main points,here n dere.u can read e whole article here:http://www.savejapandolphins.org/dolphincaptivity.php

    Why dolphins should remain free
    By Helene O'Barry

Dolphins have evolved over millions of years, adapting perfectly to life in the ocean. They are intelligent, social and self-aware, exhibiting evidence of a highly developed emotional sense. Imagine the panic dolphins must experience as they are yanked from the ocean, forever separated from their world of sound, their pod members, and their ability to swim freely.
Captures of dolphins are traumatic and stressful and can result in injury and death of dolphins. During the capture, the strong social bonds the dolphins have enjoyed and nurtured for years are abruptly and permanently destroyed.

Only the best-looking specimens are chosen for captivity (usually young females without scars or blemishes). The rest of the dolphins are cruelly slaughtered and processed into meat for meat for human consumption.
Training of dolphins is often deliberately misrepresented by the captive dolphin industry to make it look as if dolphins perform because they like it. In order to train dolphins to perform inane circus tricks, the trainer must first obtain complete control over them. This is accomplished by taking advantage of the captive dolphins' powerless predicament: They depend totally on their keepers to be fed. Once the hungry dolphins have surrendered to eating dead fish, the trainer teaches them that only when they perform a desired behavior; such as waving at the audience or tail walking, do they receive their reward: a fish. This is how abnormal behaviors are enforced in a dolphin. The captivity industry calls this training method "positive reward." From the dolphin's perspective, however, it's food control.
[tt's jus like being locked up,n perform circus tricks in exchange for food, isnt it?as humans,we can communicate to e outside world abt it,but wat can e poor dolphins do?]
The dolphin show does represent a form of education but it's a form of bad education in that it teaches millions of people that human supremacy over nature is a good thing. How can the spectators learn anything about the true nature of dolphins when the captive dolphins are trained in unnatural behaviors, mere circus tricks that these once-wild, opportunistic foragers of the oceans are performing for food rewards of dead fish? And how are the spectators supposed to become aware of the importance of preserving dolphins in nature when the dolphins they are watching have been either stolen from nature, kicking and screaming, or were born in captivity and have never seen the ocean? Any intelligent person watching dolphins perform circus tricks must conclude that this is about one thing only: casual amusement at the expense of the dolphins.
[would u like it if someone did tt to you?]
Dolphin-Assisted-Therapy has become a lucrative business over the last years and presents a serious threat to the welfare of dolphins in that it creates further captures, trade, and captive breeding of dolphins worldwide. Furthermore, it takes advantage of desperate and vulnerable parents who pay large sums of money to give their ill or disabled children what the multi-billion-dollar dolphin captivity industry advertises as a "life enhancing dolphin experience."
[tt's a piece of BULLSHIT.i noe abt dis, read abt it in "dolphin healing".tt's sooo not how it's suppose to wrk okay.]
In captivity dolphins are restricted to the size of their tank or enclosure. They can only swim a few feet before a wall or a fence stops them, and they cannot dive to depths, which in the wild is a natural behavior. Forever separated from their pod members and vast ocean world, most captive dolphins are confined in minuscule tanks containing chemically treated artificial seawater.
[tt's jus like being in jail, isnt it?
    damn those ppl]
There is no scientific evidence to support the claim that the capture and confinement of wild animals help conserve them as a species. Since the world's first formal dolphin show opened in St. Augustine, Florida, in 1938, hundreds of dolphins have been captured from the wild and trained to perform silly circus tricks. When the dolphins died, the captivity industry captured more. These are disposable dolphins for our disposable society, and to call them ambassadors is simply an obviously desperate attempt at sanitizing the exploitation of these animals.
[i've always hated dolphins performing tricks in aquariums or watever nots.wat i wan to see is wild dolphins,in their natural habitat,nt some poor controlled dolphins performing circus tricks.tt's nt how it's suppose to be]
Dolphins should be allowed to remain free and wild in the oceans where they belong.
    [and that i agree.can u imagine if one day,u r forced to live in a cave,till e day u die?]
and then i wonder,do those ppl who capture dolphins think abt e consequences of their actions or not?

Taiji is a small fishing village located on the southern part of the Japanese archipelago at the tip of the peninsula that extends into the Pacific Ocean.
This is where the practice of driving dolphins into shallow water and slaughtering them began. Sanctioned by the Japanese government, thousands of dolphins and others small whales are killed every year.
Some are killed with hand-held harpoons out at sea; others are killed in the so-called drive fisheries. Most are butchered and processed into meat for human consumption. According to our Japanese sources, some dolphin meat is used as pet food and fertilizer. With one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, Taiji is a lovely place. The majority of people here are exceptionally honest and friendly, and it looks like time stopped here in the 1950s.There is no crime to speak of in this remote fishing village, except for these crimes against nature that only involve a handful of people. Not everyone here is involved in the dolphin slaughter. In fact, most people in Japan don't even know about it. If they did, they might help put an end to this madness. The Taiji dolphin hunters have developed a highly efficient method of capturing and killing dolphins. This is how it works: A small group of dolphin hunters usually operate with 13 motorized boats about 40 ft. long. Two men are assigned to each boat. At sunrise, the boats go out in a single file searching for dolphins. Each boat carries two 15 foot long metal poles, one on each side. When the dolphin hunters locate a pod of dolphins, they position their boats in a long row, evenly spaced. They then lower their metal poles into the water and start banging on them with hammers. It's a hideous sound that never goes away once you hear it. The noise literally creates a wall of sound underwater and is used to gain control over the dolphins. The underwater noise functions as an acoustic barrier between the dolphins and the open sea. The dolphins run for their lives to get away from the terrifying noise, but this only brings them closer and closer to shore. The loud noise causes the dolphins to panic. They herd together for safety, and their fear and loss of navigational sense enable the dolphin hunters to drive them into a killing cove.Once inside the cove, the whalers drop two nets into place at the entrance, sealing the dolphins’ fate. With the animals trapped in a small area, it is an easy task for them to force the dolphins into shallow water and drive hooks, sharp spears and knives into their bodies. The water turns red with blood, and the dolphins emit high-pitched whistles and cries of pain. But there is no escape from this nightmare. This small group of Taiji dolphin hunters say that the dolphin hunt is something they are proud of. They say it is part of their culture, their tradition. Some people have the misconception that whenever something can be labeled "traditional or "cultural," it automatically justifies its continued existence. But it doesn't. The bloody sport of bullfighting, for example, is considered "traditional" in some countries. Not allowing women to vote has been traditional in some countries. Does that make it right? Of course not. When the dolphin massacre is over, the bodies are hauled away to the local slaughterhouse for processing. For years, we have traveled to Taiji to photograph the butchering process in order to get the horrific truth out to the Japanese people who have a right to know about it. But we are constantly blocked by the dolphin hunters. They simply don't want the world to know about their little dirty little secret, and a big part of their job consists of hiding their activities. They have erected a roof of blue tarp over the killing cove to prevent us from documenting the massacres. They hide the dead bodies under large pieces of plastic and butcher the dolphins in a slaughterhouse that is completely covered up. We go out of our way to work within the framework of the law during the photographic documentation process, but sometimes things get heated and the potential for violence is high, especially during the actual killing and butchering. There is another aspect of the dolphin hunt that is being kept very quiet: Mercury poisoning. Our Save Japan Dolphins Coalition has been buying dolphin meat from local supermarkets and tested it. The results show that the average level of mercury is far beyond the maximum allowable level - some of the meat was more than 35 times above the safe level. For this very reason the Wakayama Prefecture-based supermarket chain, Okuwa, pulled all of dolphin meat from their shelves in late December, 2007. Several other stores and markets have followed suit. The dolphin meat is so toxic it shouldn't be used for human consumption. It shouldn't be used as pet food - and it's shouldn't be put in the ground as fertilizer. It's literally toxic waste. The only reason the dolphin meat is still sold today is that the Japanese government and media refuse to inform the public about the danger. Article 21 of the Japanese Constitution states: 1) "I proclaim the rights given to me under Article 21 of the Japanese Constitution. Assembly and association as well as speech, press and all other forms of expression are guaranteed. 2) No censorship shall be maintained, nor shall the secrecy of any means of communication be violated." Yet, the Japanese government and media continue to violate article 21 by keeping the annual dolphin slaughter a secret. How can the Japanese public make an intelligent decision in regard to consuming mercury tainted dolphin meat if the Japanese government and media continue to maintain the censorship and keep the danger a secret?Three Taiji town councilman tested the meat for themselves. Their findings were the same as ours; the meat was highly contaminated. One of the councilman, a very brave man, held a press conference in Tokyo to warn the public of the health hazard, but the Japanese media ignored him in spite of Article 21. This urgent information was censored by the Japanese media. The story was published in the English speaking media only. It may look as if the Japanese dolphin slaughter is all about "meat for money," but during a meeting with the hunters in 2004 we realized that it's not just about the money. When we offered to financially support Taiji whalers who are willing to stop killing dolphins and find another way of making a living, this is the answer we got: "That won’t work, because we don’t just hunt dolphins for their meat. We kill them because they eat too much fish." The translator explained: "They are saying that they and the Japanese government view the dolphin slaughter as a form of pest control."Pest control? This is the first time the dolphin hunters have openly admitted to killing dolphins in an effort to keep the dolphin population down and, in doing so, make the ocean’s fish available to themselves. The oceans are depleted due to over-fishing and pollution, but they don’t want to hear it. From their perspective, they are simply killing the competition. What they are doing can indeed be called dolphin genocide. The slaughter of dolphins in Japan is incredibly savage and has to be stopped.

[more than 30,000 whales have been killed despite a global ban on commercial whaling since 1986. Harpoons using explosive grenades rarely kill the whales on first blast. They’re hoisted up the side of the ship by the tail with their blowhole underwater, leaving them to drown]
Extracted from CLEO July pg 96.
What many of us may not know is it whales, like dolphins, like humans, are mammals. Meaning they need to come up to air to get the oxygen supply, thus they cannot stay underwater indefinitely. And this is not the only way to kill whales. Over the years, certain people have thought of and invented the most unimaginable cruel violent ways to kill whales, dolphins and porpoises. There should be a stop to it already. Haven’t they suffered enough? Their numbers have decreased so much over the years that certain species are already endangered or extinct.

    And…

[you need to feed 5kg of plant food to an animal to produce 1kg of meat, so imagine the pressure our demand for meat and animal by-products is creating on the planet]
Extracted from CLEO July pg 96.
Well I think it is not necessary to become vegetarian or vegan, but instead we can reduce our meat intake and not waste food. Always finish all food ordered. It is not a lot, but it is what we can do. we should all do our part to help.

dis blog is started by someone who loves dolphins a lot a lot!(: started as her favourite animal, now dolphins became sth she wants to save when she has the money and ability to do so. Not that she has seen a real dolphin before, but still, she wants to help them because she has seen too much cruelty done to them, either from videos online or in books. She does not understand why there are not any major news on this particular unfair slaughter of wildlife, as in why are more than half of the population in the world not know about sth so cruel? Are we all too well-protected by all these kind of horrible terrible news? If so, what are news for then? To only report things that people want to know about?
Initially she only wanted to find out more about her favourite animal, but as time goes by, as she knows more and more, she slowly finds out what is happening at the other side of the world, what those poor dolphins and whales have gone through before all of us were born. The cruelty started as soon as human exists.
Now, she jus want more people to know and become aware of what is happening out dere. Hopefully, it will motivate more people to be aware and help in whatever ways they can.(: and this includes buying canned tuna with dolphin-free label!
